The new Son Volt album OKEMAH AND THE MELODY OF RIOT is awesome. Some may say Jay Farrar's voice wears on you a bit but it is an acquired taste.
Each song takes me back to the 1990's when the whole roots/rock/alt/county thing was going on in Tempe Az. Guitar driven songs with good hooks and lyrics about life.
It tells me that this kind of music is not dead...even thoug Jay has taken a couple kooky turns as a solo artist (most very good, btw) the SV boys are back with a passion!
In a sick way I miss my ripped jeans and my flannel shirt. I wonder if my wife ever misses my 2 a.m. drunken phone calls!
